Bongaigaon Administration Issues Notices Ahead of Possible Eviction Drive on Ex-Servicemen Land in Jogighopa

Bongaigaon, May 21: A large-scale eviction drive could soon be undertaken in Jogighopa in Assam’s Bongaigaon district following allegations of encroachment on land reserved for ex-servicemen at Bharalkundi village.

According to reports, the district administration has begun preparations to initiate action against individuals allegedly occupying the land. Officials from the Boitamari Revenue Circle have already served special notices to those accused of encroachment.

Sources stated that the Lat Mandal attached to the Boitamari Revenue Circle Office carried out a door-to-door exercise in Bharalkundi village to distribute the notices. Those who received the notices have been directed to appear before the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon on May 26.

The notices also provide an opportunity for the concerned individuals to submit objections and place their statements before the district administration regarding the disputed land.

The development has reportedly triggered concern among local residents and families residing in the area, with uncertainty growing over the possibility of eviction proceedings.

Reports indicate that a large area under Dag No. 99 in Bharalkundi village has allegedly remained under encroachment for a considerable period. Several houses are also reported to have been constructed on land originally earmarked for ex-servicemen.

According to local sources, portions of the land were allegedly occupied by individuals from neighbouring districts, including Goalpara and Barpeta. The prospect of a possible eviction operation has created anxiety among residents currently living in the area.

The district administration has not yet officially announced a date for carrying out any eviction exercise.
