Gossaigaon: The Central Youth Committee of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) on Friday launched a financial assistance drive among needy students and persons suffering from serious ailments in different parts of Gossaigaon subdivision. The initiative was undertaken following an appeal by BPF president and BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary. According to BPF sources, similar assistance programmes are being carried out in different areas across the five districts under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), with the objective of extending financial support to economically disadvantaged students and patients requiring costly medical treatment.

As part of the programme, the BPF youth wing team visited Gossaigaon town and provided financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh each to Pratik Saha and Suheyel Khan. Saha, a resident of Gossaigaon town, is pursuing B.Tech at IIT Kharagpur, while Khan is pursuing his studies at NIT Silchar. The team also extended Rs 1.5 lakh to Albert Narzary, who is pursuing a PhD at Bodoland University, and Rs 50,000 to another student from Gossaigaon. An additional Rs 2 lakh was provided to Anex Narzary of Raimona village, who is pursuing B.Tech studies. Later, the team proceeded to villages adjoining Raimona National Park. At Ballamjhora, Rs 2.5 lakh was handed over to Gita Narzary, who has reportedly been undergoing treatment for cancer for several years. The assistance was provided to help meet the expenses of her further treatment.
At Jiaguri village, the team provided Rs 2.5 lakh to 16-year-old Class X student Joshua Basumatary, son of Gamaliyal Basumatary, who is reportedly undergoing treatment for cancer. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Hagrama Mohilary and the BPF Central Youth Committee, stating that the assistance would provide much-needed support during difficult times. They also appreciated the initiative to extend financial help to meritorious students and people battling serious illnesses. The financial assistance drive, however, drew criticism from the opposition United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), whose leaders questioned the public distribution of financial assistance and alleged that BTC funds were being misused.
