BSF jawan Ramen Baruah laid to rest with full honours in Assam

SIVASAGAR, April 22: A wave of grief swept across Assam as Border Security Force (BSF) jawan Ramen Baruah, who died in the line of duty in Ladakh, was laid to rest with full military honours in his native village.

The 34-year-old soldier, a resident of Jarabari village under Gaurisagar Police Station, succumbed to extreme weather conditions during heavy snowfall on April 18 while deployed in the high-altitude region.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed grief over the loss, stating that the nation salutes the courage and sacrifice of the fallen soldier and extending condolences to the bereaved family.

Baruah, the third son of Kamal Baruah and Konmai Baruah, had joined the Border Security Force in 2013. He had previously served in Rajasthan and was posted in Ladakh for the past six months.

His mortal remains were flown to Guwahati before being taken to his ancestral home, where a large number of people gathered to pay their final respects. Villagers escorted the body amid emotional scenes and traditional rituals, as the soldier was accorded full state honours.
