Cachar Police Seize Heroin, Cough Syrup and Tramadol in Multiple Anti-Drug Operations Across District

Cachar Police have carried out a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations across the district, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of heroin, codeine-based cough syrup and tramadol tablets, along with the arrest of several alleged drug traffickers and peddlers.

In the biggest seizure, police under Udharbond Police Station intercepted an Intra B-10 truck bearing registration number AS11DC-8629 based on specific intelligence inputs. During the search, officers recovered 8,010 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup (100 ml each) and 150 packets of tramadol tablets. Each packet contained 10 strips with 24 tablets per strip, bringing the total recovery to 36,000 tablets. The driver, Gyas Uddin Laskar, a resident of Durganagar Part-V under Udharbond Police Station, was arrested in connection with the case.

In a separate operation under Kalain Police Station, a truck bearing registration number AS01EC-2533 was intercepted at Digorkhal while en route to Kalain. A search led to the recovery of 14 soap cases containing approximately 170 grams of suspected heroin. One person, identified as Azaduddin of Natanpur under Kalain Police Station, was arrested.

Under Silchar Police Station, another suspected drug peddler, Ajim Uddin Laskar alias Kala, was apprehended near Fatok Bazar, with 35 vials of suspected heroin weighing around 1.7 grams recovered from his possession. In another operation near Silchar Railway Station, police arrested a woman identified as Gul Nihar Begum Laskar, recovering 15 soap cases containing around 298 grams of suspected heroin.

Further, under Sonai Police Station, two women were arrested at Sonai Bazar. The accused have been identified as Rashmina Begum (31), wife of Moyam Hussain, and Mamataz Begum Choudhury (37), wife of Sahar Uddin Laskar, both residents of Makhan Nagar Bosti under Jirighat Police Station. Police recovered 11 soap cases containing approximately 122 grams of suspected heroin from their possession.

Cachar Police stated that all accused have been taken into custody and legal proceedings have been initiated under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source and wider network behind the narcotics supply chain, as part of the continuing crackdown on drug trafficking in the Barak Valley region.
