Ri-Bhoi, June 5: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Wednesday reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the Northeast, with a focus on ensuring access to advanced medical services in remote and underserved areas.
Speaking after inaugurating a hospital in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya, Nadda said the new facility would play a significant role in improving healthcare delivery and expanding access to quality medical services for residents of the state.
Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister described the hospital as an important addition to Meghalaya’s healthcare network and a major step towards enhancing medical infrastructure in the region.
“It is a matter of great happiness for me to be part of the inauguration of this hospital. I thank MLA Alexander Hek for inviting me and extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone associated with this initiative,” Nadda said.
The minister noted that the hospital would serve as more than just a healthcare institution, describing it as a source of hope for patients seeking quality treatment closer to their homes.
He emphasised that improved healthcare facilities are essential for reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for specialised treatment and for ensuring timely access to medical care.
Nadda also commended the efforts of all stakeholders involved in establishing the hospital and expressed confidence that the institution would contribute significantly to Meghalaya’s healthcare sector by providing quality treatment, creating employment opportunities and promoting medical excellence.
The Union Health Minister’s visit forms part of the Centre’s broader efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and services across the northeastern region, with a particular focus on improving accessibility and quality of care in geographically challenging areas.
