Shillong, May 3: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on May 2 unveiled a series of development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, safety and community facilities in Madanriting, a locality in Shillong, following demands raised by residents.
Speaking at a community programme organised by the Dorbar Shnong, the Chief Minister expressed satisfaction at engaging directly with residents and understanding their aspirations. He outlined multiple measures intended to enhance daily amenities and address local concerns.
Among the key announcements was the renovation of the Madanriting playground, with upgraded infrastructure designed to benefit young people in the area. Plans were also revealed for the installation of CCTV cameras and improved street lighting under the My City, Clean City campaign, with a focus on strengthening safety and maintaining urban standards.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by the Dorbar Shnong, Sangma assured that essential works, including the repair of a retaining wall and the fencing of a community hall, would be approved. He added that other issues highlighted by residents would be taken up for further review.
During the visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated an ambulance and a mortuary van procured by the Dorbar Shnong for community use, describing the move as an important step towards enhancing local emergency services.
In a bid to support education and cultural engagement, financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each was announced from the Chief Minister’s Special Grant for schools participating in the programme. The funds are intended to support cultural and musical activities.
The event was attended by local leaders, including Lambor Malniang and Wansuk Syiem, along with residents, students and teachers. Several individuals from the locality were honoured, including meritorious students, sanitation workers, police and traffic personnel, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, sportspersons and senior citizens.
Sangma noted that it was encouraging to see the Dorbar Shnong and the community recognising contributions from various sections of society. He also commended the local body for procuring the ambulance and mortuary van, expressing optimism about the continued progress and collective growth of the locality.
