Speaking on the occasion, the District Commissioner said that, in line with the rest of the nation, Assam is working relentlessly towards digitisation of financial transactions in the age of smartphones. He said that online payments and mobile transactions are increasingly becoming the norm and therefore the role of DigiPay Sakhis at the grassroots level is crucial. He added that the laptops would make transactions easier and encourage greater adoption of cashless payments in rural areas. The DC further stated that cashless transactions empower people, especially women, by enabling direct payments without the interference of middlemen.
It may be mentioned that Digi Pay Sakhi is an important financial inclusion initiative implemented under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). The programme aims to empower women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by training them to provide digital banking and financial services in rural areas.
