New Delhi: Former India head coach Rahul Dravid believes India cannot yet be ruled out of the race for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, despite the team falling behind in the qualification battle. Dravid acknowledged that India’s position has become more difficult, but said the team still has a realistic opportunity to finish among the top two. India have eight Tests remaining in the current WTC cycle, giving them enough matches to improve their position with consistent performances. The former India captain pointed to the upcoming assignments, particularly the series against New Zealand and Australia, as crucial to India’s campaign. Strong results in these matches will be essential if India are to strengthen their chances of reaching another WTC final.

India have previously reached the WTC final twice, in 2021 and 2023, but failed to win the title on both occasions. Their recent Test results, however, have made the qualification route considerably more challenging. While acknowledging the setbacks, he maintained that India possessed enough quality to turn their campaign around.
With several Tests still to be played, India’s WTC hopes will ultimately depend on their ability to convert upcoming opportunities into wins and avoid dropping crucial points. For now, Dravid’s message is clear: India may have fallen behind, but their WTC campaign is far from over.
