Itanagar, June 29: Incessant rainfall and flash floods have caused widespread devastation across Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district, damaging roads, houses, public infrastructure and disrupting connectivity in several areas.
According to official reports, the link road leading to the Upper Campus of Jawaharlal Nehru College has been extensively damaged due to heavy rain and soil erosion, affecting access to the institution.
In Pasighat, overflowing waters from the Sile and Sibo Korong streams inundated nearby localities, damaging several residential and commercial properties. Floodwaters from Besong Korong also caused significant destruction in parts of Taki Lalung and Bogong-I.
The historic Runne Church sustained considerable damage during the flooding, while the bridge over Letong Korong was also affected, raising concerns over local transportation and connectivity.
At Ledum village, the swollen Dengkam Stream wreaked havoc by destroying several houses and leaving multiple families affected.
Road connectivity has also been severely impacted, with portions of National Highway-415 at Leku and Rani village remaining submerged under floodwaters, disrupting vehicular movement.
Rescue and relief operations are continuing in the affected areas despite adverse weather conditions. In one such operation, the Indian Army successfully rescued a person stranded at Oyan.
The district administration has urged residents to avoid non-essential travel and venture outdoors only in emergencies or for urgent medical needs. Authorities have also appealed to the public to remain vigilant, follow official advisories and extend support to affected communities as relief efforts continue.
