Eight Stranded as River Suddenly Swells at Karbi Anglong Picnic Spot, Video Goes Viral

Eight people were stranded in the middle of a river after the water level rose suddenly at the Longsokangthu picnic spot in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday, July 16, triggering panic and raising fresh concerns over the dangers of visiting river-based tourist destinations during the monsoon.

According to reports, the river witnessed an abrupt surge in water level, causing the current to intensify and trapping the group midstream. The sudden rise in the flow left those stranded unable to reach safety as the situation turned increasingly hazardous.

A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, showing the group surrounded by rapidly flowing water while the river continued to swell. The footage has drawn widespread attention and highlighted the risks posed by unexpected changes in river conditions during the rainy season.

The incident has once again brought focus to the threat of sudden increases in river levels caused by heavy rainfall, upstream discharge and flash surges, which can occur without prior warning.

Following the incident, local residents urged tourists to remain vigilant while visiting picnic spots near rivers, streams and waterfalls during the monsoon. They also advised visitors to check weather forecasts and assess river conditions before entering such areas to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
