Father Alleges Foul Play in Gauhati University Student’s Death, Seeks CM’s Intervention

GUWAHATI, Sept 27: The father of 21-year-old Gauhati University student Nimisha Thakuria, who was found dead at a Guwahati homestay on September 25, has alleged foul play and urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to intervene in the case and ensure justice for his daughter.

Speaking to the media, Nimisha’s father claimed that he had noticed injury marks on her lips, thighs, head and chest. Citing the alleged injuries, he expressed suspicion that she may have been sexually assaulted and demanded a thorough investigation. The allegation of gang rape has not been independently established, and the circumstances surrounding her death remained under investigation.

Recounting the family’s last communication with Nimisha, her father said she had called her mother at around 2 am and told her that she was being severely beaten on the chest. He said the family received no further communication from her before later seeing her body at a medical facility.

The father appealed to the Chief Minister to personally look into the matter, ensure immediate action and hold those responsible accountable. He also called for strict action against those found responsible.

Nimisha, a Sociology student at Gauhati University and a resident of Dharapur under the Azara police station area, was found dead at Rudra’s Kitchen Homestay. A male acquaintance, identified in earlier reports as Ashiq Ali, has been named as an accused in connection with the case.

Police were investigating the circumstances leading to her death. The cause of death and allegations of sexual assault had not been officially established. The family has demanded a thorough probe and immediate action based on its findings.
