The first batch of pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 through the Nathula route arrived at Bagdogra Airport on June 15, formally marking the commencement of this year’s pilgrimage.
The inaugural group consists of 48 members, including 41 pilgrims from 12 states, two Liaison Officers and one Medical Officer. A total of 41 Yatris arrived with the first batch, while four support staff members, including cooks and helpers, have already been stationed in Gangtok to facilitate the journey.
The pilgrims were welcomed at Bagdogra Airport by officials of the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC), including Arjun Mangar and Biswas Gurung. Liaison Officers Phuntshok Tashi Dhopthapa and Harkaman Limbu from STDC Gangtok have been assigned to accompany and assist the group during its onward journey.
Officials said extensive transit arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for the pilgrims. After reaching Gangtok, the Yatris will complete mandatory administrative formalities and undergo acclimatisation before proceeding towards the high-altitude Nathula Pass on their way to Kailash Mansarovar.
Among the participants, Delhi accounts for the largest contingent with 11 pilgrims, followed by Maharashtra with six. The remaining pilgrims belong to Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.
Authorities said all necessary infrastructure has been readied in Gangtok, including medical screening facilities, emergency response mechanisms and communication networks, to ensure the safe and successful conduct of the pilgrimage.
The Government of Sikkim extended its best wishes to the participants and expressed hope that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 would be safe, successful and spiritually enriching for all pilgrims.
