Five-Year-Old Raj Saurabh Borkotoky Honoured as India’s Youngest Snake Rescuer in Sonitpur

Udalguri-Sonitpur, April 20: Five-year-old Raj Saurabh Borkotoky from Sonitpur district has been recognised as the youngest snake rescuer in the country during a public event held as part of the 60th Luit Par Rongali Bihu Sanmilan at Bam-Parbatia.

The recognition follows recent media attention highlighting the child’s unusual courage and growing involvement in snake rescue and conservation activities. Despite his age, Raj has reportedly shown a keen interest in handling and rescuing snakes, earning appreciation from environmentalists and social organisations across the state.

The felicitation ceremony took place during the main session of the event, presided over by Satyadev Sharma, with chief advisor Dwijendranath Sharma and invited speaker Shantanu Baruah also in attendance. Community leaders including Anurupa Bora, president of the Luit Par Mahila Samiti, and Rita Borkotoky of the Shilorkhuta Namghar Development Committee lauded the young boy’s efforts, emphasising the importance of wildlife conservation and collective responsibility towards nature.

Currently a Senior KG student at Roushan National School, Raj’s achievement has drawn widespread attention in the region. Residents of Sonitpur have expressed hope that his efforts will gain national and international recognition, with aspirations for inclusion in the Limca Book of Records and the Guinness World Records.

His growing recognition underscores increasing awareness around wildlife conservation and highlights the role of early education and training in fostering environmental responsibility.
