Severe floods, cloudbursts and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall on June 28 have caused extensive destruction across villages under the 36-Nari-Koyu Assembly Constituency in Arunachal Pradesh, leaving damaged infrastructure, widespread agricultural losses and several remote settlements cut off from the rest of the region.
Preliminary assessments indicate that at least six major bridges, including the Reme RCC Bridge, Koyu RCC Bridge, Sijo RCC Bridge, Sido Bridge and Doge RCC Bridge, were either damaged or washed away by the floodwaters. Landslides have also blocked several roads connecting interior villages, severely affecting transportation and hampering relief and emergency operations.
Among the worst-affected areas are Lipin, Mane, Tene, Sipu, Kakki, Koyu, Rotte, Kadu, Rina, Sido, Korang and Tabi Ripo, where floodwaters caused extensive damage to wet rice cultivation fields, orange orchards, arecanut plantations, fish ponds and irrigation canals. Residential houses were either damaged or partially inundated, while drinking water pipelines, electricity poles and other public infrastructure suffered significant destruction.
Kadu village reported particularly heavy losses, with large stretches of agricultural land destroyed, numerous houses damaged, road connectivity completely disrupted and an estimated 1,000 cattle and goats swept away by the floods. In Korang village, the Rema Bridge, a key link between East Siang and Lower Siang districts, sustained severe damage and has been declared unsafe for public use.
The disaster also affected schools, health centres, community buildings and other government infrastructure. Local panchayat representatives said several villages remain isolated as continuous rainfall and blocked roads have prevented authorities from completing a comprehensive assessment of the damage.
Residents and village authorities have appealed for urgent government intervention, seeking the restoration of roads and bridges, financial compensation for losses, relief and rehabilitation support, restoration of electricity and drinking water services, and the deployment of heavy machinery to clear landslide debris and reopen access routes.
Officials said rescue operations and damage assessments are continuing as the Arunachal Pradesh government closely monitors the evolving situation in the affected areas.
