Former Cricketer Amanpreet Singh Gill Passes Away at 36

Delhi: Former India Under-19 and Punjab cricketer Amanpreet Singh Gill passed away in Chandigarh on Wednesday at the age of 36. The exact cause of his death has not yet been confirmed. Gill, a right-arm medium pacer, represented Punjab cricket team in domestic cricket and was considered a promising talent during his early years. He played six first-class matches for Punjab between 2006 and 2008, claiming 11 wickets. He was also part of India’s Under-19 setup and toured England, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka in 2007.

The cricketer featured in several youth ODIs and a three-day youth Test for India, although he narrowly missed selection in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2008 winning squad led by Virat Kohli. Gill was also associated with Punjab Kings during the inaugural IPL season in 2008, when the team was known as Kings XI Punjab. Tributes poured in from former teammates and the cricket fraternity following the news of his demise. Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh expressed condolences on social media, remembering Gill as a hardworking and dedicated cricketer.

Punjab Kings players wore black armbands during their IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad as a mark of respect. The Punjab Cricket Association also mourned his passing, noting his later contribution as a member of the state senior selection committee. Gill’s cremation is scheduled to take place at Manimajra Cremation Ground in Chandigarh.
