Guwahati Police Seize 38 kg Suspected Smuggled Gold Worth ₹54 Crore, One Arrested

Guwahati, June 30: Guwahati Police have seized approximately 38 kilograms of suspected smuggled gold from the Kharghuli area in a major operation, with the recovered consignment estimated to be worth around ₹54 crore. The seizure is being regarded as one of the biggest gold recoveries made in the city in recent years.

The operation was carried out by a team from Latasil Police Station after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the movement of a large quantity of illegal gold through Guwahati. Acting swiftly on the information, the police intercepted the consignment before it could allegedly be transported further.

The person found carrying the gold, identified as Akshay Bansure, was taken into custody at the scene. Along with the suspected smuggled gold, police also seized four mobile phones and ₹3,700 in cash from his possession.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused may have links to an international gold smuggling network. However, officials said the full extent of the alleged syndicate and its operational network has not yet been established.

Police stated that the timely action based on intelligence inputs enabled the successful interception of the consignment before it could be moved to its intended destination. Investigators are now questioning the accused and examining possible connections to a larger smuggling network.

Further investigation into the case is in progress.
