Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 11 underscored the state’s focus on building stronger agricultural value chains through the Mukhya Mantri Utkarsh Yojana, saying the future of Assam’s agriculture depends on creating greater value for farmers and rural communities.
Sharing details of the initiative on X, the Chief Minister said several modern processing and agri-infrastructure projects are being developed across the state, creating fresh opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders in rural areas.
As part of the scheme, a number of key projects are being established in different districts. These include a pineapple processing unit in Lakhimpur, a modern rice mill in Morigaon, a high-tech mushroom spawn production unit in Tinsukia and an advanced spice processing facility in Kamrup.
According to Sarma, the projects are aimed at modernising agricultural infrastructure, promoting value addition and improving market connectivity for farmers.
“The future of Assam’s agriculture lies in creating more value,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the initiative would help enhance rural livelihoods and foster entrepreneurship in the agriculture sector.
The Mukhya Mantri Utkarsh Yojana forms part of the Assam government’s broader strategy to modernise agriculture, encourage food processing and generate employment opportunities through infrastructure-led growth in rural areas.
