Guwahati, May 9: Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday highlighted the rapid expansion of Assam’s unincorporated sector, asserting that the state is emerging as one of the fastest-growing economies in the country.
Sharing key economic indicators in a statement posted on social media, Sarma said Assam currently has 13.71 lakh enterprises, of which 94.6 per cent are linked to the banking system.
The Chief Minister also claimed that Assam is now among the top three most digitised states in India and ranks first in urban commercial infrastructure.
According to Sarma, the growth rate of Assam’s unincorporated sector is presently double the national average, reflecting rapid economic activity and expansion across multiple sectors.
“Assam’s unincorporated sector is not a story of catching up — it is a story of a state that has decided what it wants to become,” he said.
The remarks come amid the state government’s continued emphasis on economic growth, digitalisation and infrastructure development as part of its broader development agenda.
