Biswanath Chariali: The Inaugural Ceremony of the 34th NVS National Girls’ Football Meet 2026 (U-17 & U-19) was conducted with great grandeur, enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Biswanath on Thursday. The tournament is being organized by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Shillong Region and will serve as a national platform for young and talented girl footballers from across the country. This year the meet has witnessed participation from 10 regions of NVS, bringing together the best U-17 and U-19 girls’ teams to compete, learn and grow in the spirit of sportsmanship and unity. The ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Molong Ao, a renowned Former Football Player from Assam, Retired DSP as a chief guest, Subodh Patnaik, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee 2025 as a distinguished guest, Karabi Saikia Karan, district Commissioner cum Chairperson, JNV Biswanath as guest of honour among others.
The event commenced with a March-Past by all participating teams of both U-17 and U-19 categories, showcasing discipline and team spirit. This was followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries, symbolizing the spirit of sports and knowledge. The National Anthem was sung with pride by all present. Addressing the gathering, Karabi Saikia Karan, Guest of Honour, emphasized the importance of physical fitness, discipline and perseverance in achieving success both in sports and academics. She appreciated Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti for its continuous efforts in promoting sports among girls and providing equal opportunities to showcase talent at the national level. Molong Ao, Chief Guest and renowned footballer, motivated the players to play with dedication, respect for opponents, and to uphold the true values of the game. He along with other dignitaries declared the meet open and wished all participants the very best. The players then took the Oath to compete with honesty, integrity and true sportsmanship. Cultural performances by the students of JNV Biswanath added color and joy to the occasion. The 34th NVS National Girls’ Football Meet 2026 aims to identify and nurture sporting talent. It reflects NVS’s commitment towards holistic development of students through sports. The entire program was coordinated under the guidance of the Principal, staff and sports teachers of JNV Biswanath. The inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the first matches of the tournament.
