Kenye urges Eastern Nagaland to use FNTA for long-term development

KOHIMA, Oct 21: Nagaland Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Power K G Kenye has urged the people of Eastern Nagaland to make effective use of the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA), stressing purposeful governance, prudent financial management and adherence to traditional Naga values.

Addressing the silver jubilee celebration of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Kohima (ENPUK) in Kohima on Tuesday, Kenye said the new administrative arrangement offered the region an opportunity to learn from past experiences and shortcomings while planning its future.

The FNTA Memorandum of Agreement was signed in New Delhi on February 5 by the Centre, the Nagaland government and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO). The Nagaland Assembly subsequently passed the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority Bill, 2026, on September 3, paving the way for implementation of the arrangement.

Describing the FNTA as a significant opportunity for Eastern Nagaland, Kenye called for a clear focus on long-term development. He emphasised that funds should be allocated and utilised judiciously, taking into account the region’s developmental needs and the interests of future generations.

He said the authority should operate with a clear purpose and ensure that governance delivered meaningful outcomes for the people.

Reflecting on ENPUK’s 25-year journey, Kenye said the silver jubilee provided an opportunity for the organisation and the community to review their progress, learn from past experiences and identify ways to build a better future.

He urged the people to carry these lessons forward as they prepared for the new administrative arrangement, maintaining their commitment to development while preserving traditional Naga values.
