Keyi Panyor Hit by Landslides and Flash Floods; Intensive Restoration and Rescue Operations Underway

Itanagar, June 25: Authorities in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district have intensified road restoration, rescue and essential service recovery operations after widespread damage caused by landslides, flash floods and road washouts across multiple locations.

According to the latest situation update issued from Yachuli on Thursday, eight major road blockages have been reported along the Potin–Possa corridor, severely disrupting connectivity in the region.

Officials said the Potin–Lichi stretch and Possa–Potin stretch have been rendered completely impassable due to extensive infrastructure damage. Restoration work is underway, but authorities indicated that it may take several days due to the severity of the destruction, with no fixed timeline yet for the resumption of traffic.

To speed up clearance efforts, two Poclain excavators have been deployed from the Pitapool side to assist in reopening the affected routes up to Potin. Trailer trucks have also been arranged from Kra Daadi and Kamle districts, while additional excavation machinery has been mobilised locally.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is continuing clearance operations from the Kimin side as part of coordinated multi-agency efforts to restore connectivity.

Officials said heavy machinery has been pressed into service, but normal vehicular movement is expected to resume only after three to four days.

Search and rescue operations have been intensified with additional personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district police deployed to trace four missing persons.

Emergency response measures continued through the day, including the airlifting of a critically ill patient from Ziro by helicopter. The mortal remains of Nirmala Gupta were also transported from Pitapool Ground by the Indian Air Force.

Meanwhile, efforts to restore water supply are underway, with temporary arrangements made to ensure drinking water supply to the Higher Secondary School in the affected area with local support.

Officials added that partial restoration of essential connectivity and services in the New Pitapool area is expected by Thursday evening as relief and repair operations continue.
