KKRs Strike Early as Cameron Green Shines Against Mumbai Indians

Kolkata: Cameron Green delivered a match-defining spell to revive Kolkata Knight Riders’s hopes in their crucial IPL 2026 clash against Mumbai Indians at Kolkata. After enduring a difficult first half of the season and facing criticism for his lack of impact with the ball, the Australian all-rounder finally found his rhythm following a six-day break in the tournament. KKR had backed Green despite calls to alter the combination and include other overseas options such as Rovman Powell and Blessing Muzarabani.

The decision paid off immediately as Green struck early by dismissing Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir. He then took a sharp catch to send back Rohit Sharma, reducing Mumbai to 23 for 3 within the first four overs. Mumbai’s troubles deepened when Suryakumar Yadav departed for a quick 15 off six balls. Young pacer Saurabh Dubey claimed his second wicket of the evening, leaving Mumbai struggling at 41 for 4 before the end of the powerplay. Dubey, who spent most of the season on the bench before making his IPL debut recently, impressed with his disciplined bowling on a slightly two-paced surface that appeared to assist seamers early on.

KKR also received a boost with the return of star spinner Varun Chakaravarthy to the playing XI. Despite not being fully fit, the mystery spinner chose to feature in the must-win encounter, with conditions expected to favour spin as the game progresses. Led by Ajinkya Rahane, KKR looked confident after their strong start against a Mumbai side captained by Hardik Pandya.
