The Kuki CSO Working Committee (KCWC), South West Sadar Hills, has announced a 24-hour total shutdown along National Highway-37 with immediate effect following the alleged armed attack on civilians in Thingkhojang village of Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
In a statement, the organisation strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a serious act of violence against civilians. According to the committee, several people, including women and children, were injured after unidentified armed assailants allegedly attacked the village during a Sunday church congregation.
The committee also raised concerns over what it termed a security lapse, alleging that security personnel deployed in the vicinity failed to prevent the attack despite their presence. These claims have not been independently verified, and security forces have not issued any official response.
Demanding swift action, the KCWC called for the immediate arrest of those responsible and sought a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the incident. It also urged the Central and Manipur governments to ensure immediate medical assistance, relief measures and enhanced security for the residents of Thingkhojang village and neighbouring areas.
As part of its protest, the organisation announced a 24-hour shutdown on NH-37, warning that vehicular movement along the highway would be disrupted. It further declared non-cooperation with the 86 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) until accountability is fixed for the alleged security failure.
Expressing solidarity with the affected families, the committee urged the authorities to take prompt measures to restore public confidence and ensure the safety of civilians. There was no immediate response from the Manipur government or the security agencies regarding the demands raised by the organisation.
