Landslide at Arunachal Stone Crusher Camp Injures Four Labourers in Keyi Panyor

Keyi Panyor, June 26: Four labourers were injured after a landslide struck a workers’ camp at the D&L Stone Crusher Plant near the Keyi Panyor Welcome Gate in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district, prompting the deployment of medical personnel and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to the remote site.

According to an official report, the incident occurred around 4:30 pm on June 25, when the workers were asleep in their camps. Some of the victims were reportedly partially buried under debris before being rescued by fellow workers prior to the arrival of emergency responders.

Preliminary information suggests that the injured labourers sustained multiple fractures and head injuries, while one victim is reported to be in critical condition after complaining of severe chest pain.

Rescue operations have been significantly affected by the lack of mobile network connectivity in the area, making communication and real-time coordination difficult. Officials said information from the site has been reaching authorities only intermittently through individuals travelling to network-covered zones.

The District Administration assessed that sending rescue and medical teams from the Keyi Panyor side was not feasible, as the nearest motorable point lies nearly 12 kilometres away, requiring personnel to trek through landslide-affected terrain. Instead, authorities decided to approach the site via the Hoj side in Papum Pare district, from where the trekking distance is around five kilometres.

Following a request from the Keyi Panyor administration, the Papum Pare district authorities deputed a medical team comprising Dr Kajing Borang, Senior Medical Officer, and Nursing Assistant Tok Apa to provide emergency treatment at the site.

As one injured worker’s condition deteriorated, the 12th Battalion of the NDRF was also mobilised to assist with medical support and possible evacuation based on the attending doctor’s assessment. The deployed NDRF team includes medical and support personnel along with an ambulance.

Both the district medical team and the NDRF personnel departed from Itanagar and were scheduled to converge at Hoj before trekking to the affected location around 10 am on June 26, accompanied by a local guide to ensure safe navigation through the landslide-hit terrain.
