Shillong, May 31: Langsning FC have secured a place in their maiden Meghalaya State League final after defeating Shillong Lajong FC 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time in the second semi-final on Friday.
The match at the SSA Stadium saw Shillong Lajong FC dominate the first half, taking the lead through Fridison Wanniang in the 21st minute. However, Langsning FC fought back strongly after the break and equalised in the 80th minute through tournament top scorer Nelson Rymbai, who netted his 23rd goal of the season.
With neither side able to find a winner in extra time, the tie went to penalties. Langsning goalkeeper Nister Roy Suting played a decisive role, making a crucial save, while Shillong Lajong’s Samchaphrang Lato also missed his attempt. Langsning converted four penalties to seal a 4-2 victory.
The result sets up a final clash against Meghalaya State League debutants Nongkseh SSCC on June 5, ensuring a new champion will be crowned in the competition’s history.
Shillong Lajong had earlier taken control through Fridison’s composed finish, while Langsning created several chances after the interval before eventually breaking through via Nelson’s equaliser from a long throw-in.
Both sides will now prepare for the final showdown as Meghalaya awaits a new State League champion.
