Imphal, June 5: Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam on June 5 said the state government is yet to receive a detailed report on the deadly pre-dawn attack at Loibol Khullen village in Kangpokpi district that left three civilians dead.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a World Environment Day programme at the City Convention Centre, the minister stated that authorities have not yet been provided with comprehensive information regarding the incident.
When asked about those responsible for the attack, Konthoujam said it would be premature to comment as detailed inputs from the ground were still awaited.
The Home Minister also responded to questions concerning the Naga hostages case, where it was reportedly stated during a recent court hearing that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had not received formal intimation despite the Manipur government’s announcement of referring the matter to the central agency.
Clarifying the issue, he said he had personally signed the relevant file and suggested that the discrepancy may have arisen due to a misunderstanding. He added that further developments in the case are expected within the next few days.
His remarks came hours after the attack at Loibol Khullen village under the New Keithelmanbi area of Kangpokpi district, where suspected armed militants reportedly opened fire around 4 am, killing three civilians, including a woman.
Several houses in the village were also allegedly set on fire, causing extensive damage and escalating tensions in the region.
Security forces have launched an investigation into the incident, while local residents and leaders have called for swift action against those responsible.
