Imphal, May 17: Manipur Police arrested an active member of the banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba) during a security operation in Imphal, while a separate anti-narcotics drive in Kakching district led to the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers and the seizure of suspected heroin.

According to officials, the arrested KCP (Apunba) cadre has been identified as Rex Thoudam alias Machatombi (23), a resident of Palace Compound along Heijingang Road in Imphal East district who was currently staying at Kakwa Naorem Leikai in Imphal West district. He was apprehended from the Singjamei Police Station area on May 15.

Security agencies stated that the operation was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities and dismantle extortion-related networks operating in Manipur’s valley districts.

In another operation conducted on the same day, security personnel arrested two individuals near Pole Star College under Hiyanglam Police Station in Kakching district. The accused were identified as Md. Salim (31) and Md. Nawab (32), both residents of Kairang Mayai Leikai in the Kairang Muslim area of Imphal East district.

During the operation, security forces recovered 13 soap cases containing suspected heroin, commonly referred to as brown sugar, weighing around 147 grams. Officials also seized a four-wheeler and cash amounting to Rs 52,000 from their possession.
