Manipur Police Seize Suspected Heroin, Cocaine and Illegal Liquor in Multiple Operations

Imphal, June 14: Manipur Police intensified their crackdown on narcotics and illegal liquor transportation, recovering suspected heroin and cocaine in separate operations and seizing a large consignment of illicit liquor from a vehicle in the state.

On June 13, police recovered 26 soap cases containing suspected heroin from a Tata Gold Sumo during an operation carried out at Tronglaobi Makha Leikai under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur district.

Two individuals travelling in the vehicle were taken into custody in connection with the seizure. They were identified as 22-year-old Bicky Munda, a resident of Charhajare village in Motbung, Senapati district, and a juvenile from Hungpung village in Ukhrul district.

In a separate anti-drug drive conducted on June 12, police arrested two persons from different parts of Imphal West district and recovered cocaine from their possession.

Sukham Rozar (25), a resident of Sagolband Sayang Pukhri Mapal, was apprehended near Nitayainanda Mandir on RIMS Road with 4.6 grams of cocaine. In another operation, Mutum Giriraj alias Pakpa (29) of Sagolband Meino Leirak was arrested from his locality, and police recovered 18.6 grams of cocaine from him.

Meanwhile, police intercepted a Mahindra Bolero at Khabam Lamkhai in Imphal East district and seized 215 litres of DIC liquor being transported in the vehicle.

Three occupants of the Bolero — driver Moirangthem Abinash Singh (27), Wahengbam Ichanmacha (46) and Thangjam Sumati Devi (49) — were detained. The seized liquor, the vehicle and the detainees were later handed over to the Excise Department for further legal action.

The operations are part of the ongoing drive by Manipur Police against narcotics trafficking and the illegal transportation of liquor across the state.
