Meghalaya HC Hears State’s Plea Against Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Bail, Next Hearing on June 3

Shillong, June 2: The Meghalaya High Court on June 1 heard a petition filed by the state government challenging the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, with arguments from the state side concluding before the court.

The matter was heard by a single bench of Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, where Advocate General Amit Kumar presented submissions on behalf of the government. The state’s counsel completed arguments during the hearing, marking the first phase of deliberations in the case.

The state government has moved the High Court seeking cancellation of the bail granted by the East Khasi Hills Sessions Court on April 27, 2026. The sessions court had earlier allowed bail to the accused under specific conditions.

In its petition, the government has urged the High Court to set aside the bail order, arguing that it requires reconsideration on legal grounds. The case has since drawn considerable attention due to its sensitivity and procedural significance.

The court has now listed the matter for further hearing on June 3, when counsel representing Sonam Raghuvanshi is expected to present arguments in defence of the bail order.

The proceedings are expected to continue as both sides present their submissions before the High Court, which will decide on the validity of the lower court’s order in the coming hearings.
