Minister Pijush Hazarika holds departmental review meeting

Nagaon: Newly appointed Guardian Minister of Nagaon district, Pijush Hazarika, visited Nagaon today and assumed the office of the guardian minister of Nagaon district. Besides, he also held a detailed review of the work and functioning of all government departments. Hazarika, who also holds the Agriculture and Irrigation portfolios, chaired a meeting at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office. Reviewing the Chief Minister’s ‘Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan’ and ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme’, he said that while the government’s decision to provide jobs to 2 lakh people is welcome, it alone will not be enough to solve unemployment. He stressed that self-employment through the newly launched schemes must create sustainable livelihoods.

Under the ‘Mukhyamantri Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan’, arrangements will be made for 10 lakh youths for self-employment, the minister informed. He added that beneficiaries of loans under the scheme must ensure proper utilization and work diligently. Hazarika also laid emphasis on increasing agricultural production in the district and raising the number of registered farmers.

Expressing deep concern and dissatisfaction over the fact that irrigation schemes in Nagaon cover only a very small area of farmland, the minister directed officials to prepare an action plan immediately to revive defunct or non-functional projects. He announced that he would visit Nagaon again soon to conduct a detailed review of every department’s performance. “Most of the items we use in daily life come from outside. The state can progress only if our youths get involved in production-oriented work and reduce this dependence,” he said.

This was Hazarika’s first visit to Nagaon district after being inducted into the new cabinet. MLAs Rupak Sarma of Nagaon-Batadroba, Jitu Goswami of Barhampur, Shashikanta Das of Raha, Mehboob Muktar of Dhing, Tanzil Hussain of Samaguri, and Nurul Huda of Rupohihat were present, along with almost all MLAs of the district. District Commissioner Devashish Sarma welcomed the minister at the start of the meeting and assured that all officials are committed to taking the district forward based on his guidance. The DC greeted the minister with a gamosa and sorai. Senior Superintendent of Police, District Development Commissioner, CEO of Zila Parishad, Additional District Commissioners, and heads of all departments also attended. The minister interacted with everyone present. Earlier in the day, Hazarika also attended a similar review meeting in Hojai district, stated in an official press release here.
