GUWAHATI, April 25: A 27-year-old woman from Guwahati who had been reported missing on April 24 has been found safe in Shillong, bringing relief to her family after hours of uncertainty.
The woman, identified as Bhabana Sarma, was located inside a room at a branch of the State Bank of India near Polo Ground in Shillong. According to information shared by a family member, bank staff discovered her in a distressed condition when they arrived at the premises early in the day and promptly informed the police.
Following confirmation of her whereabouts, members of her family, accompanied by police personnel, left Guwahati for Shillong to bring her back.
Sarma had gone missing on Friday after reportedly sending a message to her family indicating that she was in danger. She is said to have hired a cab from her residence in Tetelia and was travelling towards Azara when the message was sent.
After losing contact with her, the family lodged a complaint at Jalukbari Police Station, prompting authorities to initiate a search operation. Her last known mobile location was traced near the Gauhati University area before her phone became unreachable.
No communication was received from her until she was found in Shillong. Police have begun an inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and subsequent recovery.
