Mizoram Targets 1% Share of India’s GDP, Rs 16 Lakh Per Capita Income by 2047

Mizoram aims to raise its contribution to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from 0.1 per cent to 1 per cent and increase its per capita income to Rs 16 lakh by 2047, Chief Minister Lalduhoma said on November 3.

Addressing the Youth Entrepreneurship Summit (YES) 2026, organised by the Mizoram Entrepreneurs’ Chamber in Aizawl, Lalduhoma said the government was pursuing a long-term transformation of the state across sectors, with a focus on economic growth and entrepreneurship.

He noted that Mizoram accounts for around 0.9 per cent of India’s population but contributes only about 0.1 per cent to the national GDP. The government aims to increase this share tenfold over the next two decades, he said.

Lalduhoma said efforts to achieve the target included support prices for agricultural produce and insurance schemes for crops and livestock. Under the Chief Minister’s Special Package of the Bana Kaih scheme, financial assistance is provided to people seeking to start or expand small businesses, while a separate loan component supports larger ventures.

He said assistance was awarded on the merit of projects without favouritism or discrimination, adding that no beneficiary who had received a loan under the scheme had defaulted on repayment so far.

To promote innovation and start-ups, the government has introduced initiatives including an Innovation Facility Centre, Innovation Awards, a Venture Capital Fund and the Mizoram Start-up Mission.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the growing momentum in the micro, small and medium enterprises sector, particularly among young entrepreneurs establishing food-processing units using locally produced agricultural goods. Several permits had also been issued this year for producing fruit beer from locally grown fruits, he said.

Lalduhoma urged young people to take advantage of government entrepreneurship schemes and encouraged consumers to support locally manufactured products.

At the summit, he launched 10 products developed by Mizo entrepreneurs and distributed prizes to winners of an Innovation Challenge.
