Tinsukia: Assam Police have arrested a woman and her mother in connection with the death of 26-year-old Chinmoy Jyoti Changmai in Tinsukia, while a third accused remains absconding, police said. Changmai, a resident of Bordoloi Nagar, was found critically injured outside the JSB Spring Field residential complex in Tinsukia town around midnight on August 27. He was initially taken to Tinsukia Civil Hospital and later shifted to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, where he succumbed to his injuries. According to the FIR lodged by Changmai’s mother, Riturani Changmai, the youth had gone to the residential complex after allegedly receiving a call from a woman identified as Ananya Senapati, a law student. The complaint alleges that an altercation took place inside the building and that Changmai was pushed from an upper floor.

Police subsequently arrested Ananya Senapati and her mother, Juhi Senapati, who works as a teacher at a private educational institution. Nilim Jyoti Senapati, identified as an associate professor at Tinsukia College, is the third accused and is reportedly absconding. Police have launched a search to trace him. A case has been registered at Tinsukia Sadar Police Station under Sections 61(1)(a), 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The arrested accused were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Police said the allegations against the accused are yet to be established and that the circumstances surrounding Changmai’s injuries and death remain under investigation. Investigators are questioning the accused and other persons connected with the case while examining available evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.
