Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has congratulated filmmaker Borun Thokchom and the team behind the documentary Battlefield for its selection in the International Competition Section of the 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2026, describing the achievement as a major moment for the state’s film fraternity.
In a message shared on social media, Singh said the documentary represented nearly a decade of dedicated effort and reflected the perseverance of everyone associated with the project.
He noted that Battlefield was the result of around ten years of research, documentation, travel and interviews aimed at preserving the history of the Battle of Imphal and its lasting impact on Manipur.
According to Singh, the filmmakers invested years of work to ensure that this important chapter of history remains documented and available to future generations at a time when many historical narratives risk fading with the passage of time.
The former chief minister also commended Borun Thokchom, along with the producers, researchers and the entire crew, for their commitment and determination in carrying the project forward over the years.
Expressing confidence in the documentary’s reception, Singh said the film would resonate with audiences and help bring wider recognition to the rich historical legacy, creative talent and artistic excellence emerging from Manipur.
The selection of Battlefield in the international competition category of MIFF 2026 is being seen as a significant achievement for the state’s documentary filmmaking community and is expected to enhance the visibility of Manipuri cinema on both national and international platforms.
