Nagaland Braces for Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Till May 1, Advisory Issued

Kohima, April 28: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has forecast a spell of unsettled weather across Nagaland, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely to persist until May 1.

According to the advisory, conditions are expected to intensify from April 28, with most districts likely to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning. Heavier spells are anticipated in districts such as Peren and Kohima, where wind speeds may reach 30–40 kmph in certain areas.

The peak of the weather activity is projected on April 29, when widespread thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall are expected at several locations. Districts including Dimapur, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland and Tseminyu may experience more severe conditions, increasing the likelihood of localised disruptions.

A gradual improvement is expected from April 30, with rainfall intensity likely to decrease and thunderstorms becoming isolated. By May 1, weather conditions are forecast to stabilise, with no major warnings issued for most parts of the state.

Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant during the period, avoid open areas during lightning, and seek shelter when storms occur. The public has also been urged to monitor official updates and rely on verified alert systems for timely information.
