A two-month training programme in traditional wood carving commenced at Chesezu village in Nagaland’s Phek district on Thursday, with a focus on preserving indigenous craftsmanship and developing sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan Programme began at the Chesezu Nasa Village Panchayat Hall in the presence of Thiose Sangtam, manager of MARCOFED, Dimapur; Sudipta Das, Handicrafts Promotion Officer at the Handicrafts Service Centre, Kohima; Vekho, treasurer of the Ura Zuveh Foundation, Phek; and master craftsperson K. Nyekha.
Nyekha, an experienced wood carving artisan, has been appointed to train participants during the programme. The trainees will receive intensive instruction in traditional carving techniques over the next two months.
The programme is sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) under the Union Ministry of Textiles and organised by the Nagaland State Co-operative Marketing and Consumers Federation Ltd (MARCOFED), Dimapur.
