Voting in Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election began at 7 am on October 6, with Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri among the early voters at a polling station in Sabuwadhara Panchayat.
Deuri cast his ballot at Deorabori Primary School, Polling Station No. 261, under the 54 No. Morigaon Assembly constituency. He waited in the queue before exercising his franchise.
After voting, Deuri expressed confidence in BJP candidate Debashish Sharma and said he expected the party to secure the seat by a margin of one lakh votes if voter turnout reached 90 per cent.
“If the voter turnout reaches 90 per cent, I will be able to ensure the victory of Debashish Sharma by one lakh votes,” Deuri said.
During the polling process, Deuri was also seen entering the polling station and giving instructions to the presiding officer.
The by-election is being held to fill the vacancy in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, with voting taking place under security and administrative arrangements aimed at ensuring peaceful polling.
