Netherlands national football team Announce World Cup 2026 Squad

Sports Desk: Netherlands national football team coach Ronald Koeman has named experienced forward Memphis Depay in his 26-member squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026 despite concerns over the striker’s recent injury struggles. Depay, the Netherlands’ all-time leading scorer with 55 international goals, recently returned to action for Brazilian club Corinthians after recovering from a thigh injury. Although the forward has had limited game time in recent weeks, Koeman expressed confidence in his experience while admitting fitness concerns remain ahead of the tournament.

The Dutch squad also includes players returning from injuries, such as Justin Kluivert and Jurrien Timber, while West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville earned his maiden call-up. However, Liverpool wingback Jeremie Frimpong was left out due to recurring injury issues. The Netherlands will miss several key players, including midfielder Xavi Simons, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier this year, along with defenders Stefan de Vrij and Matthijs de Ligt. Koeman remained realistic about his side’s title hopes, stating that while the Netherlands aims to compete for the trophy, the team still faces stiff competition from stronger nations. The Dutch, three-time World Cup finalists, begin their Group F campaign in Dallas against Japan national football team before facing Sweden national football team and Tunisia national football team.
