Imphal, Aug 12: At least nine houses belonging to members of the Liangmai Naga community were allegedly burnt down by armed miscreants at Tokpa Liangmai village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, sources said.
The incident reportedly took place at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, August 11, at the village located between Mahika and Lower Thanamba villages. According to sources, nine houses were completely gutted in the late-night incident.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and the identities of those responsible were not immediately known. The incident has raised concern among residents, who have urged the authorities to conduct an immediate investigation and take steps to ensure the safety of people living in the area.
As of Wednesday morning, there was no official statement from the Kangpokpi district administration, Manipur Police or security forces regarding the incident.
The alleged arson comes amid heightened tensions in several parts of Manipur, where there have been continuing reports of attacks on villages and the involvement of armed groups.
