NSCN-IM Cadre Surrenders in Arunachal’s Tirap, Hands Over Firearm and Ammunition

Tirap, April 25: A member of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) surrendered before police and security forces in Tirap district on April 24, officials said, in a development seen as part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activity in the region.

The individual, identified as SS Lieutenant Thinwang Deosa (60), a resident of Sanliam village under Lazu circle, laid down arms at the Superintendent of Police’s office in Khonsa in the presence of Tirap Police and personnel from the Assam Rifles.

Authorities said he surrendered a 7.65 mm pistol, reportedly of US origin, along with a magazine and seven live rounds of ammunition.

Security officials noted that the surrender reflects sustained efforts to encourage militants to return to the mainstream through a combination of outreach and enforcement measures. Tirap district, which has witnessed sporadic insurgent presence, remains a priority area for coordinated security operations aimed at stabilisation.

Officials added that such initiatives are intended to restore normalcy and create conditions conducive to long-term development in the region.
