Duliajan, May 23: Oil India Limited (OIL) organised a road show under its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, Project OIL Swabalamban, at Ushamati in Doomdooma town of Tinsukia district on Thursday with the aim of promoting skill development and employment opportunities among local youth.
The programme was attended by Assistant Commissioner of Doomdooma Sudip Gogoi, OIL Chief General Manager (Public Affairs) Diganta Kumar Borah, district administration officials and senior executives of OIL.
The event sought to encourage unemployed and aspiring youths to enrol in placement-linked skill development programmes being conducted under Project OIL Swabalamban. A large number of candidates and guardians from Doomdooma and neighbouring areas attended the programme and interacted with former trainees who have established careers after completing training under the initiative.
Around 25 alumni currently employed in reputed hospitality establishments, including Lemon Tree Hotels, Courtyard by Marriott Chennai, Mayfair Spring Valley Resort and Manohari Tea Retreat, shared their experiences and encouraged participants to pursue professional training for better career prospects.
Career counselling sessions and spot registration facilities were also organised during the programme. An audio-visual presentation featuring messages from former trainees working in countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Qatar, New Zealand, Maldives and Fiji highlighted the international employment opportunities generated through the project.
Speakers at the programme emphasised the importance of industry-oriented training and skill enhancement in empowering local youth and improving livelihoods. They noted that Project OIL Swabalamban has contributed significantly towards supporting underprivileged youths through structured training and placement opportunities.
Launched in 2013, Project OIL Swabalamban has trained more than 23,000 students in NSDC-approved courses, with over 19,000 candidates reportedly securing employment in reputed organisations across the country, according to OIL officials.
