Imphal, May 15: A person was killed after a bomb exploded at Singjamei Bazar in Manipur’s Imphal during the intervening night of May 14 and 15, triggering panic in the busy commercial locality, police and local sources said.
The explosion occurred around midnight in the market area under the jurisdiction of Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district. Residents and shopkeepers in the area were reportedly alarmed by the sudden blast, which disrupted the otherwise quiet night in the locality.
According to preliminary findings, investigators suspect that the deceased may have been carrying the explosive device at the time of the incident. Sources said the individual had reportedly arrived at the location on a motorbike shortly before the explosion took place.
Police teams rushed to the spot soon after the blast and cordoned off the area as part of the investigation. Forensic examination and further inquiries are currently underway to determine the nature of the explosive device and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities said the identity of the deceased has not yet been established.
No organisation has claimed responsibility for the explosion so far, and police are continuing their investigation into the case.
