Itanagar, May 20: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on May 20 shared Meto Dumra, a music video inspired by the traditional Monpa folk song Mento Dumra, which featured in the Bhutanese film Chorten Kora.
Describing the project as “a musical tribute”, Khandu said the video draws inspiration from stories, memories and the long-standing spiritual connection associated with Chorten Kora, a revered stupa located in eastern Bhutan near the Arunachal Pradesh border.
Referring to local traditions surrounding the shrine, Khandu spoke of a belief that a Khandrom Princess from Tawang offered herself within the sacred structure during its construction. According to him, this story has created a lasting spiritual and cultural connection between the people of Tawang and Bhutan’s Trashiyangtse region.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the annual Dakpa Kora pilgrimage, noting that devotees from Tawang continue to undertake long journeys to visit Chorten Kora, carrying forward generations of faith, devotion and remembrance.
He further mentioned a popular belief linked to the shrine that suggests the tilted Sertog of Chorten Kora appears to lean towards Tawang, symbolising an enduring connection with the people who return each year as part of their spiritual tradition.
Khandu said the music video has been conceived as a tribute to the cultural and emotional legacy of Chorten Kora, adding that several scenes were recreated in recognition of the film’s significance and its deep connection with the traditions and sentiments of the region.
