Petrol Bombs Thrown at Congress Candidate’s House in Diphu

Diphu, May 6: Tension has surfaced in Assam’s Diphu after unidentified individuals allegedly hurled petrol bombs at the residence of Congress candidate Raton Engti, police said on May 5.

According to officials, six petrol bombs were thrown at Engti’s house on Monday night. However, none of the devices exploded, preventing any damage or casualties. Engti and his family were inside the residence at the time but remained unaware of the incident as the explosives failed to detonate.

The matter came to light the following morning when Engti discovered the unexploded petrol bombs and informed the authorities. A police team subsequently reached the spot, seized the devices, and initiated an investigation.

Police are currently probing the motive behind the attack and working to identify those responsible. The incident has raised concerns over post-election tensions in the region.

Engti had recently contested the Assembly elections from Bokajan but was defeated by Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Surjya Rongphar by a margin exceeding 17,000 votes.

Authorities stated that security arrangements are under review and further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
