Petrol Crosses Rs 100 in Delhi as Fuel Prices Rise for Fourth Time in Under Two Weeks

National, May 25: Petrol and diesel prices were increased again on Monday, marking the fourth revision in less than two weeks as rising global crude oil costs and continued geopolitical tensions in West Asia placed pressure on domestic fuel rates.

Following the latest revision, petrol prices in Delhi crossed the ₹100 mark, rising by ₹2.61 per litre to ₹102.12, while diesel prices increased by ₹2.71 to ₹95.20 per litre. Similar increases were reported across major metropolitan cities.

In Kolkata, petrol prices rose to ₹113.51 per litre after an increase of ₹2.87, while diesel climbed by ₹2.80 to ₹99.82 per litre. Mumbai recorded petrol at ₹111.21 per litre following a rise of ₹2.72, while diesel increased to ₹97.83 per litre after a ₹2.81 hike. Chennai also witnessed higher rates, with petrol rising by ₹2.46 to ₹107.77 per litre and diesel increasing by ₹2.57 to ₹99.55 per litre.

The latest increase followed three earlier revisions this month. Fuel rates were first raised by ₹3 per litre on May 15, followed by an increase of around 90 paise on May 19. On May 23, petrol and diesel prices were again revised upward by up to 91 paise per litre.

With the latest revision, cumulative increases since May 15 have reached roughly ₹8 per litre in many regions, reflecting sustained pressure from global oil market volatility and supply concerns linked to the West Asia situation. Analysts indicate that rising fuel costs could affect transportation expenses and have wider implications for inflation and consumer spending.
