Petrol, Diesel Prices Rise Again as Fuel Rates Climb Nearly ₹5 in 10 Days

National, May 23: Petrol and diesel prices were increased by up to 91 paise per litre on Saturday, marking the third revision in fuel rates within less than 10 days as global energy prices continued to face pressure amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

In Delhi, petrol prices rose by 87 paise per litre, taking the retail price from ₹98.64 to ₹99.51. Diesel witnessed a steeper increase of 91 paise, with prices moving up from ₹91.58 to ₹92.49 per litre.

State-run oil marketing companies had resumed fuel price revisions on May 15 with a ₹3 per litre increase, citing higher crude oil and energy costs in international markets. A second increase of around 90 paise per litre followed on May 19.

Following the latest adjustment, fuel prices have risen cumulatively by close to ₹5 per litre over a period of 10 days.

The continued increase in petrol and diesel rates is expected to place additional pressure on transportation expenses and household budgets, while also raising concerns over possible downstream effects on the prices of essential goods and services.

Fuel retailers periodically revise prices based on several factors, including movements in global crude oil prices, currency exchange rates and prevailing market conditions.
