Pradyot Debbarma Calls for Systemic Reforms, Youth Focus After TTAADC Oath Ceremony

Agartala, April 27: Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday emphasised the need for systemic reforms and prioritising youth, healthcare, education and opportunities, warning that failure to address these sectors would impact both Tripura and the nation.

He made the remarks after attending the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected members of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

A total of 24 members from the Tipra Motha Party took oath during the ceremony, administered by Law Secretary Shankari Das, while four members from the Bharatiya Janata Party boycotted the proceedings.

Addressing the media, Debbarma said a “new Tripura and a new India” are being shaped, but stressed that meaningful progress would depend on prioritising key social sectors. He called for a shift in administrative approach, urging institutions to move away from arbitrary functioning and towards accountable governance.

He further stated that incremental efforts would not suffice, and that structural changes were required to transform the system. Reflecting on the past five years, he said efforts to bring reforms must now be accompanied by a broader change in mindset.

Debbarma advocated for inclusive policymaking, suggesting the involvement of professionals beyond politics, including former civil servants, members of the judiciary, students and individuals from arts and culture, to contribute to planning in areas such as drinking water, healthcare, education and entrepreneurship.

He also urged the Government of India to prioritise development in TTAADC areas, stating that the progress of Tripura is closely linked to the growth and welfare of the autonomous council region.
