Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified its operations against smuggling of contraband items, leading to multiple successful seizures and arrests over the past few days. Altogether, nearly 59 kilograms of ganja valued at over ₹6.20 lakh have been recovered, with three women and one man apprehended in connection with the illegal trade.
On September 9, the RPF team of Kamakhya post, during routine checks at the station, apprehended a person carrying 6 kilograms of ganja worth about ₹60,000. The seized items, along with the accused, were handed over to GRP/Guwahati for further legal action.

A day earlier, on September 8, a joint team of RPF, Dog Squad, and GRP/Agartala recovered 27 kilograms of unclaimed ganja concealed in a coach panel at Agartala yard. The consignment, valued at approximately ₹2.70 lakh, was handed over to GRP/Agartala for disposal.
In another major operation on September 7, the RPF team at Dimapur recovered 16.4 kilograms of unclaimed ganja worth ₹1.64 lakh from a train coach. On the same day, at Agartala, two women passengers were apprehended with 4.69 kilograms of ganja worth ₹88,400.

On September 6, during a routine check at Agartala station, the RPF along with the Dog Squad and GRP apprehended a woman carrying 4.18 kilograms of ganja valued at ₹41,800.
The N.F. Railway reiterated its commitment to curbing illegal activities such as smuggling, theft, and human trafficking, while also assisting passengers during their journeys. Authorities have urged rail users to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the RPF helpline 139 (toll-free).
