Sai Sudharsan Set for No. 3 Role as India Prepare for Afghanistan Test

Sports Desk: Young left-handed batter Sai Sudharsan is set to be handed the crucial No. 3 position in India’s batting order for the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan, scheduled to begin at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Saturday. India’s team management appears keen to provide stability to a position that has seen several changes since the departure of veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara. Reports suggest Sudharsan has emerged as the preferred choice ahead of other contenders, including Devdutt Padikkal, following his impressive performances across formats.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has indicated that Sudharsan deserves an extended run in the Test side, noting that the talented batter has not yet received a fair opportunity to establish himself in the longer format. The 24-year-old has been in excellent form, enjoying another prolific IPL season for the Gujarat Titans and strengthening his case for a permanent spot in the national team. His consistent run-scoring ability and sound technique have impressed selectors and team management alike.

The Mullanpur Test is also expected to provide India’s spin department with a valuable examination. Afghanistan, renowned for producing quality spinners, could pose a significant challenge, making the contest an important test for India’s batting unit ahead of future assignments. With crucial World Test Championship points at stake, India will hope Sudharsan can seize the opportunity and bring much-needed stability to one of the most important positions in the batting lineup.
