SHILLONG: BJP leader and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai has neither confirmed nor denied reports that nine UDP MLAs are planning to join the BJP, saying the developments would become clear with time.
Asked about the reported move, Shullai said the BJP had been engaging with leaders from different political parties and remained open to those willing to join the party.
“We have tried our best to talk and make people understand. I have hope….and time will tell,” he said.
Shullai said the BJP’s doors were open to MLAs, MDCs and political leaders who wanted to join the party. He added that the party was already holding discussions with leaders from different political parties and would continue its outreach.
The BJP leader also claimed that the party was steadily expanding its support base in Meghalaya, citing its growing presence in areas such as Mawlai and his Laban constituency.
He said people from different communities were increasingly accepting the BJP and attributed the growing support to the party’s focus on development and assistance for poorer families and unemployed youth.
“If you are with the BJP, there are many benefits when it comes to development and helping the poor and unemployed youth,” Shullai said.
